JYOTI Vocational Training

JYOTI Vocational Training

JYOTI means ‘Blaze of Brightness' in Nepalese. The children and young people who benefit from JYOTI are among the most disadvantaged in Nepal – they come from backgrounds of extreme poverty, child labour, commercial and sexual exploitation, and social marginalisation.

JYOTI Vocational Training Centre (JYOTI VTC) provides vocational training opportunities for teenagers who previously had little hope for their futures.  A two year programme including three months practical work experience gives these young people a chance to learn a trade or profession and regain their self respect and confidence to hold a job down.  In addition to training, these teenagers receive medical care, counselling, protection and opportunities to shape their own lives. Trainees graduate as Electricians, Plumbers, Secretaries or Caregivers.  80% of graduates find full time employment – they are independent, off the streets and earning an income!
