Well I must admit I wasn't familiar with the term until Christmas 2010. Over Christmas my two brother-in-laws, who were visiting from the UK, convinced me it would be a good idea that instead of spending my summer holiday sunning myself on a beach in Cornwall (occasionally the sun shines in the UK!) I should cycle with them from John O Groats to Lands End (JOGLE). So what does this entail? It’s a distance of close to 1000 miles which we hope to cover in 12 days....leaving a little time for me to recuperate with the family before returning to Singapore. Below is a map, which will give you some idea of the scale of the challenge. Fortunately for me my father-in-law has done the ride (the other way round from Lands End to John O Groats), so I have had plenty of input and advice from him to help me.
After deciding that I would do the ride I then felt that given the amount of training required and personal sacrifices to be made I would see if anyone might sponsor me. Sponsorship will also help to make it difficult for me to chicken out on day 3!
All that was left was to decide whom I would try to raise some money for. I have been involved with CWS since the beginning of the year having traveled to Nepal to visit their various projects. CWS is a grassroots organisation improving the lives of disadvantaged children and young adults in Nepal through projects focusing on education, healthcare and social opportunities. I was very impressed with the work they are doing and have helped them to raise money for their Jyoti Vocational training project. For the bike ride I am hoping to raise money to support a number of their projects in Nepal. Please help me to support this worthwhile cause by sponsoring me on this endeavour to cycle 1000 miles over 12 days.
Thank you for your interest.
